- I’ve made good progress categorising Climate Sceptics & Think Tankers (concentrating on climate related but adding in others where I come across them) pages. There’s still a bit of work to do here. It won’t be concise, there’s likely to be some who fall through the net, but I don’t want to become too occupied chasing categories (we can always add the others as we come across them). I just need to follow the links on International Policy Network, Tech Central Station and the Heartland Institute pages then this should be finished.
- I’ll have a look at Geoff Mulgan’s page for Claire.
- I also need to write a bit on Food Industry Friendly Experts.
- I need to read through the Scottish Widows Policy reports (re the links David sent by email 11thFeb) and add anything relevant. All the other relevant info from the other Scottish Widows links are in. Stub pages for their staff are to be created?
Lynn's Progress
Globalisation category pages
- Globalisation:Ethical Trading Initiative Deleted - dedicated page for Ethical Trading Initiative created and relevant info carried over. Done
- Globalisation:Tesco: Ethical Trading Initiative - started to look at collating the info on this page with Tesco's dedicated page. Many of the sources on the Glob page are dead links. Also, looks like a fair bit of work needs done re the referencing on Tesco page too. Didn't want to get bogged down with that at present. Shall I spend time on it, or shall we come back to it later?
- Globalisation:Primark Ethical Trading Initiative 'Deleted' - Dedicated page for Primark Stores Ltd created and the info added. Note:I created a new category for this page (Category:Retail Industry) it didn't appear to fit under any of the others. Hope that's ok. Done
- Globalisation:Asda: Ethical Trading Initiative Deleted - Done: Info merged into ASDA Wal-Mart & ASDA Wal-Mart: Corporate Crimes pages. The dedicated Asda pages will need further work done on them to tidy them up & ref them properly (there also looks like there may be gaps in the refs which need checked). This job will take a while so have left it for now so as to get cracking on with the Glob pages. --Lynn Hill 12:34, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Re our chat
Hi David,
- I've formatted Stevenson on my talk page so it's easier for you to look at.
- I'll spend some time putting together a new page for the International Chamber of Commerce, then will get on to CSR.
- This will leave some of the globalisation pages to be passed on to someone else for completion. The list of them is on my talk page. I am discovering that there are other hidden pages with a Globalisation header that aren't listed in this category but are linked to it. For example one called 'Globalisation:Global Compact' and there's been a few with people's names that are linked to the pages. I've deleted the ones I've discovered so far, but it's probably a good idea for whoever takes this over to keep an eye out for them.

- The Atlantic - not sure that quote is a problem - page could be expanded --David 18:00, 16 March 2009 (UTC) I have a problem with this page because the quote (a very negative one) is the only thing we have on the publication, and the insult isn't justified by laying out the argument. Even tho the quote is referenced correctly, it's not acceptable that this is the only thing we say about The Atlantic. Top Think Tanks for Innovative Ideas
- 1. Cato Institute Cato’s libertarian stance, once viewed as fringe, is now considered respectable. With its anti-incumbent, anti-Washington attitude, Cato has antagonized liberals with its push to privatize Social Security, as well as conservatives with its vigorous opposition to the Iraq war.
- 2. Brookings Institution From heathcare reform to recommendations on closing the prison at Guantánamo Bay, Brookings has a breadth of expertise that allows it to offer innovative fixes for nearly every critical issue facing the United States today.
- 3. Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Carnegie’s role in opposing the invasion of Iraq and providing critical research on issues such as Iran’s and North Korea’s nuclear weapons programs places it at the heart of some of Washington’s defining policy debates.
Best New Think Tanks (of the last 5 years)
- 1. European Council on Foreign Relations Populated by European heavyweights like Nobel Peace Prize laureate Martti Ahtisaari and former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer, the ECFR aims to craft a common foreign policy for an increasingly integrated Europe.
- 2. Bruegel Funded by EU member states and located in Brussels, Bruegel specializes in driving European economic growth and making the continent more competitive in the global economy.
- 3. Center for American Progress Thanks to its all-star roster of experts and savvy use of new media, CAP has emerged as the intellectual center of Democratic D.C.
Most Impact on Public Policy Debates
- 1. Brookings Institution When important debates occur in Washington—whether over Middle East peace, global finance, or urban strategy—it’s a fair bet that Brookings is driving the conversation.
- 2. Heritage Foundation A partisan approach, obsession with the latest policy issues, an effective marketing strategy, and proximity to the seat of power (it is steps away from the U.S. Congress) give Heritage an influential edge.

The Think Tank Index Methodology
Prior to launching the Think Tank Index, extensive research was conducted to develop a comprehensive list of all think tanks in the world. Relying on previous studies, think tank directories and databases, and experts in the field, 5,465 institutions worldwide were identified for inclusion in the study.
To create a more manageable list from which to identify leading think tanks, an international group of scholars, think tank executives, public and private donors, and policymakers were then asked to nominate think tanks they consider to be the best in the world. These experts used selection criteria such as a think tank's ability to retain elite scholars and analysts; access to elites in policymaking, media, and academia; media reputation; reputation with policymakers; scholarly output; and usefulness of the organization's information, among others. This effort resulted in a list of approximately 400 think tanks worldwide that were then included in the Think Tank Impact Survey.
The Think Tank Impact Survey was then sent to hundreds of think tank scholars, think tank executives, and government and NGO personnel who fund think tanks. More than 150 responses from this panel of experts were received. These respondents ranked the list of think tanks by region and research area, the results of which are seen here.

Students under evaluation--progress
David, what about this section for letting the editors know which students' work has been evaluated so that editors can search under their contribs and go in and check? maybe you could add a list of their names here so we can keep an eye on progress? thanks --Claire Robinson 14:26, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Hi David
Businesspeople is a proper word -- I looked it up first http://dictionary.reference.com/dic?q=businesspeople&search=search
I favour this over corporate elite as it seems less value-laden and more of a straight description, which is a direction I have gone in re categories since talking to Andy R! but I am open to persuasion.

Hi David
on Businesspeople I'd rather use the dictionary-correct form rather than Business People as the latter makes us seem less than literate. On elites I take yr point and don't mind if others use it but in practice the usage of the word often seems tinged with envy -- and frankly I couldn't see the business chap whose page I was editing this morning as a member of any sort of elite.... --Claire Robinson 10:38, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
histories
Right you are, getting started on those histories. I will check via the user contribs and do a random check of the user's histories also just to see that none have fallen thru the net? --Claire Robinson 16:42, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
abshire
Hi David
only just saw yr message about Abshire (I don't seem to be notified any more when you leave msjs on talk page, only see them when in there!) and not sure what you mean by the deletion as I can see no record of any deletion by me in the history, or am I misunderstanding?? cannot recall anything about him but that may be my senility.

OK sorry, thought you meant me to delete and paste whole thing on Lynn's page, have done so and created new page called Globalisation and put in resources at the bottom. will add a definition as there wasn't one.--Claire Robinson 15:36, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
