To give it its full name: Mizrachi Hapoel Hamizrachi Federation of Great Britain and Ireland [1]
Mizrachi UK is a religious Zionist organisation based in the United Kingdom. It operates as the UK branch of the international Mizrachi movement, which promotes Torah-centred Zionism and strengthens Jewish identity through education and community programmes.
The organisation was originally established as the Mizrachi Federation of Great Britain and Ireland. A contemporary report makes clear that "The Mizrachi Organization, an orthodox Zionist group, announced the formation of the Mizrachi Federation of Great Britain and Ireland on September 28, 1936."[2] By 1968 it was known as the Mizrachi-Hapoel Hamizrachi Federation of Great Britain and Ireland, marking its golden jubilee that year.[3]
Around 2014 the organisation rebranded and began operating as Mizrachi UK. In 2024 it celebrated "10 years of enriching and inspiring religious Zionism in the UK Jewish community."[4] It runs educational programmes, events and leadership initiatives focused on religious Zionism and Israel-Diaspora connections.[5][6]
History
The Mizrachi Federation was formally founded in London in 1936 following assistance from the world executive of the Mizrachi Organisation.[7] It later incorporated Hapoel Hamizrachi elements and by 1968 was operating as the Mizrachi-Hapoel Hamizrachi Federation, actively involved in the religious life of Anglo-Jewry.[8] The modern Mizrachi UK identity emerged around 2014, with a focus on contemporary educational and inspirational work within the UK Jewish community.[9]
Activities
Mizrachi UK delivers programmes promoting religious Zionism, Jewish education and stronger ties to Israel. It organises events, leadership training and community initiatives.[10]
