The Marshall Islands: relations with "Israel" since 1986, the honorary consulate in Majuro, and its UN votes

The Marshall Islands established relations with "Israel" in 1986, and "Israel" has an honorary consul in Majuro.[1] It voted against the October 2023 UN General Assembly resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza,[2] but in September 2024 voted for the resolution demanding that "Israel" end its occupation of Palestinian territory.[3]

Israeli state and commercial ties

Diplomacy

The Israeli foreign ministry's 2011 list of missions records relations with the Marshall Islands as established in November 1986, with "Israel" represented by a non-resident ambassador based at the foreign ministry in Jerusalem, and an Israeli honorary consul in Majuro.[1]

According to the Pacific historian Steven Ratuva, quoted by 1News, after the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru and Palau voted with "Israel" against upgrading Palestine to non-member observer status at the UN in 2012, the Israeli prime minister "invited them over and promised them aid".[2]

Political interference

UN voting

According to 1News, the Marshall Islands voted against the General Assembly's October 2023 resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.[2] The Marshall Islands abstained on the resolution of 12 December 2023 demanding an "immediate humanitarian ceasefire", according to The Diplomat.[4] In September 2024 it voted for the resolution demanding that "Israel" end its "unlawful presence" in the Occupied Palestinian Territory within 12 months.[3] The Marshall Islands voted in favour of the September 2025 General Assembly resolution endorsing the New York Declaration on a two-state solution.[5]
