The Organización Sionista Argentina (OSA, Zionist Organisation of Argentina) describes itself as "la expresión institucional del movimiento sionista en la Argentina" ("the institutional expression of the Zionist movement in Argentina"). It says its main aim has been to "representar, coordinar y fortalecer" ("represent, coordinate and strengthen") the work of the Zionist movement in the country, and that for more than a century it has worked with Jewish schools, youth movements, synagogues and community institutions on Hebrew, Jewish history, the history and current affairs of "Israel", and "la lucha contra el antisionismo" ("the struggle against anti-Zionism").[1] Its legal entity, the Asociación Organización Sionista Argentina, is registered with the tax authority as a civil association with a contract date of 11 June 1968.[2]

Mission and aims

The OSA states its mission as fostering Jewish identity in Argentina through education, "esclarecimiento" (clarification) and the spread of Jewish values, "promoviendo la centralidad de Israel y su rol en el mundo contemporáneo como elementos fundamentales en la vida judía y sionista" ("promoting the centrality of Israel and its role in the contemporary world as fundamental elements of Jewish and Zionist life"). Its stated objectives are:[1][3]

  • to spread the foundations of Zionism, through Hebrew, the youth movements and the history of the Zionist movement;
  • to promote the State of "Israel", including as a destination for work and study;
  • to "clarify" socio-political issues, through "acciones de esclarecimiento sobre el conflicto árabe-israelí" ("clarification work on the Arab–Israeli conflict") and an active role "en la clarificación de temas relacionados a la actividad antisionista" ("in clarifying issues related to anti-Zionist activity").

In 2020 Gabriel Traiman, the OSA's secretary for political action, told Identidades that the secretariat's main function was "vincularse con el mundo externo a la comunidad y mostrar lo que Israel hizo, hace y puede seguir haciendo" ("to engage with the world outside the community and show what Israel has done, does and can keep doing").[4]

Activities

The OSA's older website lists statements from May 2021, including "El estado de Israel tiene el derecho y la obligación de proteger a sus ciudadanos" ("The State of Israel has the right and the duty to protect its citizens"), a statement by the OSA and its Comité Federal repudiating "las declamaciones incendiarias y tendenciosas" ("the inflammatory and tendentious declarations") of the CTA trade union federation, and a statement after Argentina's vote at the United Nations.[3]

On 13 November 2023 Itón Gadol reported that the OSA had organised an event at the Teatro Gran Rex in Buenos Aires with Keren Hayesod CUJA, the Jewish Agency and the World Zionist Organization, attended by more than 2,000 people, calling for "la urgente liberación de los 240 rehenes" ("the urgent release of the 240 hostages") and raising money through the campaign "centralizada por el Keren Hayesod CUJA" ("centralised by Keren Hayesod CUJA").[5]

In the 2025 elections to the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina (AMIA), the OSA president Demián Stratievsky led "Somos AMIA", the joint list of the Zionist parties. The OSA secretary general, Federico Nemetsky, was also a candidate on the list.[6]

Governance

A new board headed by Demián Stratievsky took office in November 2021.[7] A notice in the Boletín Oficial of November 2025, signed by Stratievsky as president (designated by an assembly of 6 September 2023), called the OSA's members to an ordinary general assembly on 15 December 2025 at Pasteur 633, 8th floor, to consider the accounts for the years ending 30 April 2024 and 30 April 2025 and to elect new authorities.[8] The OSA's website now lists Federico Nemetsky as president.[1]
