Mapai was a Zionist workers’ party established in Mandate Palestine in 1930 resulting from the unification of Hapo'el Hatza'ir and Ahdut Ha'avoda. David Ben-Gurion headed the party. The party ran for the First to Fifth Knessets, was the largest party in the Knesset, and its leader was called upon to form all the Governments in the period. Toward the elections for the Sixth Knesset, Mapai formed the Alignment with Ahdut Ha'avoda-Po'alei Zion (also known as Poale Zion). In 1968, toward the elections for the Seventh Knesset, Mapai established the Israel Labor Party with Ahdut Ha'avoda-Po'alei Zion and Rafi.[1]
