The Federated States of Micronesia: relations with "Israel" since the late 1980s, ambassadors exchanged in 2025, and its consistent UN votes with Israel
The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) is a more consistent supporter of "Israel" at the United Nations than even the United States, according to UN Watch as cited by The Guardian.[1] Its government dates relations with "Israel" to 1988,[2] while the Israeli foreign ministry's 2011 list gives 1987.[3] In April 2025 B'nai B'rith International honoured its ambassador for its "resolute support for Israel at the United Nations".[4]

Diplomacy
The Israeli foreign ministry's 2011 list of missions records relations with the Federated States of Micronesia as established in September 1987, with "Israel" represented by a non-resident ambassador based at the foreign ministry in Jerusalem.[3] The FSM government gives the date as 23 November 1988.[2]
On 5 March 2025 Roi Rosenblit, resident in "Israel", presented his credentials as Israeli ambassador to President Wesley Simina in Palikir. Simina said the FSM wanted to work with "Israel" on coastal fisheries, environmental conservation, youth development, sports exchanges, scholarships and "most importantly, water management", and restated the FSM's support for a two-state solution.[2]
On 28 April 2025 Jackson T. Soram, the FSM's ambassador in Washington, presented his credentials in Jerusalem as the fifth FSM ambassador to "Israel". The FSM government said that "Israel" "was among the first nations to recognize and supported Micronesia's sovereignty", and quoted President Isaac Herzog: "First of all, we love your country. You're one of the closest friends Israel has". Soram's delegation also met MASHAV, Israel's development agency.[5] A week earlier B'nai B'rith and AJIRI-BBI had honoured Soram in the United States, where its chief executive Daniel S. Mariaschin said: "Micronesia has really stood out at the United Nations". Soram said: "Micronesia is proud to stand by Israel's side."[4]
Political interference
UN voting
According to The Guardian, UN Watch says Micronesia has not cast a single vote against "Israel" in the past ten years.[1] At the opening of Nauru's embassy in Jerusalem in September 2026, Nauru's vice-president Lionel Aingimea said that the FSM voted in support of "Israel" 88 per cent of the time.[6] According to the Pacific historian Steven Ratuva, quoted by 1News, after the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru and Palau voted with "Israel" against upgrading Palestine to non-member observer status at the UN in 2012, the Israeli prime minister "invited them over and promised them aid".[7] 1News reported that the Federated States of Micronesia voted against the General Assembly's October 2023 resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.[7] The Federated States of Micronesia voted against the resolution of 12 December 2023 demanding an "immediate humanitarian ceasefire", according to The Diplomat.[8] The Guardian listed it among the 12 states that voted against a later General Assembly resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, which passed with 149 votes in favour.[1] In September 2024 it voted against the resolution demanding that "Israel" end its "unlawful presence" in the Occupied Palestinian Territory within 12 months.[9] The Federated States of Micronesia voted against the September 2025 General Assembly resolution endorsing the New York Declaration on a two-state solution.[10]
