The Trust was founded by Josef Kasner and registered on 16 September 1974 with the Charity Commission.[3] It gives money to a variety of Zionist causes including those operating on illegal settlements in the West Bank.
Its founder, Josef Kasner, is also named as founder by the 'J. Kasner Foundation', a name used on a 2023 website that lists trustee Baruch Erlich as President.[4] No registered entity of that name has been found, and the trust's accounts do not mention it.[2] The Charity Commission register gives the trust's address as 1 Thomas More Way, London N2 0UL.[5] Its accounts give 1A Gresham Gardens, London NW11 8NX.[2]
Objects and activities
The charity's registered objects read: "TO PAY APPLY AND APPROPRIATE THE WHOLE OF THE TRUST FUND TO THOSE PURPOSES BOTH IN THE UNITED KINGDOM AND ABROAD RECOGNISED AS CHARITABLE BY ENGLISH LAW AT THE DISCRETION OF THE TRUSTEES BUT DURING THE LIFETIME OF JOSEPH KASNER SUBJECT TO HIS DISCRETION AND APPROVAL."[1]
The register describes its activities as: "We Make grants to charities."[1]
Register classifications: General Charitable Purposes.[1]
Areas of operation recorded on the register: Throughout London, Manchester City, Israel.[1]

Activity beyond the Green Line and support for the IDF
Findings are graded by confidence. "Partner" findings concern the Israeli recipient organisation, not proven use of UK funds.
| Finding | Confidence |
|---|---|
| FY2024 grant of £40,000 to Yeshivat Shavei Hevron – a yeshiva in the Hebron settlement (name match only; no charity number in the accounts). | Unverified – name only |
| The Guardian reported in July 2025, citing documents, that the trust gave about £5.7m through the conduit charity UK Toremet to the Bnei Akiva yeshiva high school in Susya, a West Bank settlement.[16] | Medium – press report citing documents |
Support for the IDF: No IDF or military funding is stated.[2]
Funding of Israeli settlements
- Yeshivat Shavei Hevron. The accounts of The Kasner Charitable Trust for the year to 31 March 2025 show a grant of £40,000 to Yeshivat Shavei Hevron in the comparative year to 31 March 2024 (PDF p.18).[2] The yeshiva's website gives its address as Beit Romano, Hevron (Hebron),[17] in the occupied West Bank.
- Grants through UK Toremet. The trust's accounts record grants to UK Toremet Limited of £3,660,000 in the year to 31 March 2018 (PDF p.16),[18] £1,565,500 in 2019 (PDF p.16),[19] £5,293,400 in 2020 (PDF p.17),[20] £2,861,159 in 2021 (PDF p.18),[21] £983,400 in 2022 (PDF p.18),[22] £47,500 in 2024 and £25,000 in 2025 (PDF p.18).[2] UK Toremet Limited's own accounts filed at Companies House list grants to the "Bnei Akiva Yeshiva High School for Environmental Studies" of £2,636,200 (year to 31 March 2018),[23] £2,675,400 (2020)[24] and £227,948 (2021),[25] a total of £5,539,548. The school's website gives its location as Susya, Har Hevron Regional Council.[26] Susya is an Israeli settlement in the south Hebron hills of the occupied West Bank. Neither charity's accounts state that particular Kasner grants were passed on to the school.
Controversies and conflicts
- Filing compliance: All 5 annual returns and accounts on the Charity Commission record were received by their due dates, and the register states "Charity reporting is up to date (on time)".[9][5]
- Overlapping trusteeships: Baruch Erlich is also a trustee of The Yes Foundation Limited (1186521). Judith Erlich is also a trustee of The Yes Foundation Limited (1186521). David Winegarten is also a trustee of The Yes Foundation Limited (1186521), B H Gur Limited (1062929).[27]
Charity Commission register
- No Charity Commission inquiry, Official Warning or Gazette insolvency notice naming this charity was found, and its register entry shows no regulatory alert;[28] it is not among the charities named in the Commission's cheque-cashing class-inquiry announcements (May, September and December 2025) or in the September 2026 statement of results.[29][30][31][32] The charities in the Commission's settlements class inquiry (opened August 2026) have not been named, so it is not known whether this charity is among them.[33]
- FY2024 grant to a settlement yeshiva. The 2024 institutional grants list includes £40,000 to Yeshivat Shavei Hevron (PDF p.18).[2] The Guardian has reported that Friends of Yeshivat Shavei Hevron (1118370, since removed) "sent nearly £200,000" between 2019 and 2024 to a religious school in the Hebron settlement;[34] the Kasner accounts give no charity number, so the recipient is identified by name only. The grant does not appear in the 2025 list.

The register records that the charity owns and/or leases land or property.[1] No title registers were purchased.[40] Candidate titles and addresses (CCOD dataset and register/accounts data):[41]
- Investment property held at fair value (trustee valuation with professional assistance); addresses not stated – Accounts accounting policies (PDF p.16); the trust is unincorporated, so no CCOD company match is possible (source: accounts)
