Chabad of Mid Miami Beach, Inc. (CMMB; "Chabad House of Mid Miami Beach") is a Chabad-Lubavitch congregation at 5401 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, led by Rabbi Benzion Korf, brother of Mordechai Korf.[1][2] County records show that it also owns the 1140 Alton Road building and four office buildings in Miami Gardens that it bought between 2020 and 2024 for about $31 million.[3][4] The Korf Family Foundation reported grants of $704,300 to it between 2013 and 2017.[5][6]

Registration

The Chabad-Lubavitch directory lists "Chabad House of Mid Miami Beach" at 5401 Collins Avenue, with shluchim (emissaries) Rabbis Bentzion Korf, Mendy Katz and Chaim Stern, and a congregation, "Cong. Keter Abraham Chabad".[1] The Florida register (no. N11000006436) gives its head office as 5401 Collins Avenue.[7] The IRS lists it care of Rabbi Benzion Korf at 17330 NW 7th Avenue, the Lubavitch Educational Center campus, with church filing status from September 2014. It therefore files no Form 990.[8]

Property

Records of the Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser (2026 roll) show these non-residential holdings:[3][9][10][11][4]

Non-residential property owned by Chabad of Mid Miami Beach (Miami-Dade Property Appraiser)
Site Use (county roll) Acquired Price recorded 2026 market value

1515 NW 167th Street, Miami Gardens Office building (50,889 sq ft) Sep 2024 $15,100,000 $10,500,000

CMMB also owns four residential properties in Miami Beach (postcode districts 33140 and 33141), two of them with parsonage exemptions, with a combined 2026 market value of $5,905,732. Under this wiki's address rule their addresses are not given.[12]

Observation: because CMMB files no Form 990, it is not public how it paid for the roughly $31 million of purchases since 2020. Mortgage records at the Miami-Dade Clerk of Courts have not been checked. The Forward (critical) reported in 2020 on the dedication of a school building that the movement "had purchased for $5 million in 2017".[2] The only 2017 purchase of about that price in these records is the LEC's purchase of 1525 NW 167th Street, which it sold to CMMB in 2020.[9]

Funding from the Korf and Laber foundations

Status: allegation. In 2020 the US Department of Justice filed civil forfeiture complaints alleging that Ihor Kolomoisky and Gennadiy Bogolyubov defrauded PrivatBank in Ukraine, and that their associates Mordechai Korf and Uriel Laber "created a web of entities, usually under some variation of the name 'Optima,' to further launder the misappropriated funds".[13] Korf and Laber are claimants in those cases, not defendants. They deny any wrongdoing, and no criminal charge against either man has been found. The Forward reported in 2020 that "there is no evidence that any of the recipients were aware of the two men's connection to the laundering".[2] This page has found no authority that accuses Chabad of Mid Miami Beach of wrongdoing, and no source that traces any of the alleged proceeds to it. The grants below are lawful grants as the Korf Family Foundation and the Laber Foundation reported them to the Internal Revenue Service. They are not evidence of tracing. The full account is on Chabad and Ukraine.

Every grant to Chabad of Mid Miami Beach listed on the 990-PF returns of the two foundations is set out below, year by year. Tax years end on 30 November. The figures for the tax year ending November 2006 are those on the amended returns, which the foundation pages cite; the original returns gave slightly different amounts.[14][15] No grants from the Laber Foundation to CMMB have been found.
