Chabad Lubavitch of Serbia, which operates as Chabad Serbia, is the Chabad-Lubavitch mission in Serbia, based in Belgrade and led by Rabbi Yehoshua Kaminetzky and his wife, Miri.[1] It is the only Chabad centre in the country listed by the movement's headquarters.[2]

History

Lubavitch.com, the movement's headquarters site, reported in August 2008 that a Chabad representative had moved from Israel to Belgrade earlier that summer to serve the city's growing Israeli population; the same report described two rabbinical students sent that summer to teach in Jewish communities across Serbia and Bosnia.[3]

On 12 September 2016 the Jewish centre "Chabad Serbia" at 61 Kneza Miloša Street in Belgrade was officially opened. Diplomacy&Commerce reported that the opening was attended by representatives of Serbian government ministries, the City of Belgrade, the diplomatic corps and the Jewish Community of Belgrade, that it was the first centre of the Chabad-Lubavitch organisation in Serbia, and that it brought Belgrade its first Jewish ritual bath since the Second World War. It named Kaminetzky (spelt "Kaminecki") as the centre's founder.[4]

Centres

Chabad headquarters lists one centre in Serbia, Chabad-Lubavitch of Serbia, in Belgrade, postcode district 11000, led by Yehoshua and Miri Kaminetzky.[1]
