Background
The Department for Transport work with their agencies and partners to support the transport network that helps the UK’s businesses and gets people and goods travelling around the country. They plan and invest in transport infrastructure to keep the UK on the move. DFT is a ministerial department, supported by 21 agencies and public bodies. [1]

Prior to reshuffle:
- Tim Smith - appointed special adviser to Patrick McLoughlin in May 2015. Former lobbyist at Portland Communications and political press adviser to the Conservative Party.
- Julian Glover - was appointed special adviser for the DfT in September 2012. Previous to this, he was chief speech writer to the Prime Minister. He was also a columnist at The Guardian from 2001 to 2011. [2]
- Simon Burton - was appointed special adviser in May 2014. Previous roles include working at the policy and briefing team at Post Office, political adviser at the Conservative Party, constituency organiser at Huntingdon Conservative Association and constituency assistant to the office of Jonathan Djanogly [3]
Former
- Ben Mascall - special adviser to Patrick McLoughlin from September 2012 to May 2015. Previous roles include political press adviser for health and education for the Conservative Party, account director at lobbyists Bell Pottinger Group, account director at MS&L Worldwide as well as senior consultant at Financial Dynamics.[4] Now a spad to defence secretary Michael Fallon and deputy director of communications for the Conservative Party.
