+ | ==History== | ||
+ | Citigate Dewe Rogerson was created in 1998 by bringing together two companies. Dewe Rogerson (founded in 1969), which could claim to be the creator of modern financial and corporate PR. In the 1980s it handled 90 per cent by value of the UK government’s privatisation programme. In the late 1980s, it exported this expertise, especially in the area of privatisation, which it recognized early as a global trend, driven by political and economic policy, deregulation and the needs of companies to grow and to secure finance beyond their national boundaries. The other company, Citigate Communications, was established in 1988 to focus on much the same territory as Dewe Rogerson. In 1997 its parent company, Citigate Communications Group, became part of the [[Incepta]] Group.<ref>[http://www.brandrepublic.com/InDepth/Features/155949/Superbrands-case-studies-Citigate-Dewe-Rogerson/ Superbrands case studies, Citigate Dewe Rogerson] Brand Republic, August 2002</ref> Incepta then merged with the [[Huntsworth]] Group in 2005.<ref>[http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/article418483.ece Huntsworth and Incepta agree to £200m merger], Times, 4 March 2005</ref> Citigate Dewe Rogerson is seen as the “pinstriped” end of Huntsworth. | ||

Lobbying
CDR runs a specialist public policy, or lobbying, division - Citigate Dewe Rogerson Public Policy - to "help its clients understand and negotiate political, parliamentary and regulatory issues."[2]
This replaced Citigate Public Affairs, CDR's former lobbying arm, which merged with lobbying firm Grayling Political Strategy in the summer of 2007. Both Grayling and CDR are part of the Huntsworth Group. It was reported that the merger came about because Citigate Public Affairs had "been decimated by an exodus of senior staff".[3]
CDR is a member of the Association of Professional Political Consultants, the trade body for lobbyists.
People
- Anthony Carlisle, executive director. Has been with Dewe Rogerson since 1970. One of the best known PR men in the city. A key figure in the government privatizations of BT, British Gas, BP, British Steel and the water and electricity companies in the eighties and early nineties.[4] Tony Carlisle has been described by the Evening Standard as “the dark master at Citigate Dewe Rogerson, and a man who has made more money from the privatised utilities sector than most. Carlisle was involved in 90% of the privatizations of the eighties and nineties. He was quoted by the Guardian as saying: “One of the key accusations of privatisations is that it works for the bosses and the shareholders, but ... pity about the poor consumer.”[5]
- Roddy Dewe
- Patrick Donovan, managing director, financial practice. Former city editor of The Guardian, deputy city editor of The Evening Standard and a founder journalist on The Independent.[6]
- Jonathan Flint, managing director, corporate practice.

History
Citigate Dewe Rogerson was created in 1998 by bringing together two companies. In 1997 its parent company, Citigate Communications Group, became part of the Incepta Group.[36] Incepta then merged with the Huntsworth Group in 2005.[37] Citigate Dewe Rogerson is seen as the “pinstriped” end of Huntsworth.
Having left Citigate, co-founder David Wright formed Newgate Communications as part of the Porta Communications group. The name of the new communications group seems to link with the many staff who have swapped Citigate for Newgate. including Jonathan Clare (another founding director of Citigate) and Deborah Saw.
