David Reuben (born September 1938) is a British businessman. With his brother Simon Reuben he owns the investment group Reuben Brothers.[1][2] The brothers made their first fortune trading metals and investing in the Russian aluminium industry through Trans-World in the 1990s, and sold those interests in 2000.[3] Since then they have invested in property, data centres, racecourses, pubs and lending.[4]

Companies House lists him as a director of the family charity, the Reuben Foundation, under the name Reuben David Reuben, with Monaco as his country of residence.[1][5] According to BBC News, the 2026 Sunday Times Rich List placed "David and Simon Reuben and family" second, with £27.9bn.[6]

Biography

The Guardian reported in 2004 that the brothers "were born in Bombay to Jewish parents of Iranian descent" and moved to London as teenagers.[3] Property Week called them "sons of Iraqi Jews who had moved to India".[7] In 2021 The Guardian said they were born in Mumbai to Iraqi Jewish parents with business interests in Baghdad and India.[8] Forbes says that the brothers were born in Mumbai and raised in the UK.[2] Companies House records his birth as September 1938 and his nationality as British.[9][5]

Forbes gives his residence as London and says that he lives part-time in Monaco and Florida.[2] The Guardian reported in October 2026, citing research by TaxWatch, that he had been tax resident in Monaco since at least 2014. It added that in 2024 he told a Los Angeles court "I reside in Monaco. I have resided there for approximately 10 years".[10][11]

Business

According to The Guardian, Reuben joined Mount Star Metals in 1958, which introduced him to metal sources in the Soviet Union. He joined Trans-Continental, a subsidiary of Metal Traders Inc, in 1974, and co-managed a Soviet metals trading venture with Merrill Lynch. He left Metal Traders in 1977 to form Trans-World Group, which was sold in 2000.[3] Fortune wrote that in the early 1990s David worked from London and Simon from Geneva. By 1996, it said, Trans World was hailed as the world's third-largest aluminium producer, behind Alcoa and Alcan.[12] For the brothers' later investments, see Reuben Brothers.

Political donations

The Electoral Commission register records a non-cash donation of £4,000, an auction prize, given in the name "Mr David R Reuben" to Boris Johnson and accepted on 22 January 2008.[13] Companies linked to the brothers have given larger sums; see Reuben Brothers and Investors in Private Capital.

Companies House holds two officer records for him. One is in the name "David Reuben" (born September 1938), with the correspondence address 13 Melbury Road, London W14 8LL for most appointments.[9] The other is in the name "Reuben David Reuben" (born September 1938, resident in Monaco).[5] Both records appear in the Reuben Foundation's list of officers.[1] The Trans-World Group register names "Mr Reuben David Reuben" as a person with significant control, holding 50–75% of shares and voting rights, notified on 6 April 2016.[14]
