Controversies and regulatory action

  • No Charity Commission inquiry, Official Warning or Gazette insolvency notice naming this charity was found, and its register entry shows no regulatory alert;[10] it is not among the charities named in the Commission's cheque-cashing class-inquiry announcements (May, September and December 2025) or in the September 2026 statement of results.[11][12][13][14] The charities in the Commission's settlements class inquiry (opened August 2026) have not been named, so it is not known whether this charity is among them.[15]
  • £3.5 million loan to a trustee's company. "On 13 Nov 2020 Sellata Limited made a £3,533,060 5-year long-term cash loan to Bestgreat Ltd" at a fixed 5%. Trustee E Benedikt is a director of Bestgreat Ltd, and he and his wife Mrs N Benedikt each own 50% of its shares. On 20 October 2025 the loan was extended to 13 November 2030, with an exit clause after 13 November 2028. Bestgreat paid £158,346 interest and £256,553 net repayments in the year, leaving £2,910,366 outstanding – almost all of the charity's £2,915,413 funds (PDF p.16–17).[2] Companies House lists Eliezer Shlomo Benedikt and Nechy Benedikt as officers of BESTGREAT LTD (04069384).[16] The related-party note does not mention Charity Commission authorisation (PDF p.17).[2]
  • Grants to charities named in the cheque-cashing inquiry. FY2026 grants include £13,000 to "Vyoel Moshe Charitable Trust", and the 2025 comparatives include £13,000 to "Merkaz Hatorah Belz Macnivka" and £15,000 to "The Rehabilitation Trust (Wlodowa)" (PDF p.14).[2] These names match or are close to Vyoel Moshe Charitable Trust (327054), placed in the cheque-cashing class inquiry in September 2025, and Friends of Mercaz Hatorah Belz Macnivka (1126075) and The Rehabilitation Trust (288622), placed in it in May 2025.[11][12] The recipients' identity was not confirmed, and no finding has been made against Sellata.
  • Land record. The register records that the charity owns or leases land, and HM Land Registry's CCOD dataset lists a freehold title (6 Crewys Road, London NW2, proprietor since 1993) under the charity's company number, but the 2026 accounts show no property; its income is described as coming from "property investments" (PDF p.4).[1][17][2]
