Friends of Mosdos Sanz of Safad is a charitable trust on the register of the Charity Commission for England and Wales (charity number 292396). Its objects include supporting the Mosdos Sanz schools, educational institutions and welfare activities, and it reports that it supports Sanz schools and educational institutions in Israel.[1] This ties it by name and objects to the Sanz-Klausenburg dynasty, whose institutions in Safed are listed by the historian Tzvi Rabinowicz.[2]
Registration
The charity was registered on 20 August 1985 and is governed by a declaration of trust dated 9 April 1985. Its registered address is 23 Elmcroft Avenue, London NW11 0RS. It is recognised by HMRC for gift aid, and its reporting is up to date.[1]
Objects and activities
The objects are to advance education in, and the religion of, the Orthodox Jewish faith, and to support the Mosdos Sanz schools, educational institutions and welfare activities in general.[1]
In its latest return the charity says that during the year it advanced money to Mosdos Sanz schools and educational institutions in Israel. The register classes its work as general charitable purposes, relief of poverty and religious activities. It makes grants to organisations for children and young people and for people of a particular ethnic or racial origin, and it operates in Israel. It reports three trustees and one volunteer.[1]

The register shows the British Friends of Ramoth Jerusalem as overdue with its reporting by 1,703 days.
Toiba Esther Trust and The Grove Charitable Trust, both with Barry Bodner as a trustee, give the same address, 23 Elmcroft Avenue, London NW11 0RS. Toiba Esther Trust also gives the same telephone number.[1][3][4]
Dynasty link
The link to Sanz-Klausenburg rests on the charity's name and on its registered objects, which name the Mosdos Sanz (Sanz institutions).[1] Rabinowicz lists Safed among the Israeli towns with Sanz institutions, alongside Bnei Brak, Petah Tikva and Tiberias.[2] The register does not name the rebbe or say which Sanz institutions in Israel received the money.
