Josh Arnold Foster is a senior adviser at Hanover Communications.
Career
Before joining Hanover, Arnold-Foster was a special adviser to John Reid, defence secretary, from 2005 to 2006. During this time he provided advice to Reid on 'planning for Helmand Task Force deployment, contributed to drafting of 2005 Defence Industrial Strategy and helped develop the case for the disposal for Chelsea Barracks'.
He joined Hanover Communications in 2007 and has provided political and strategic advice to clients including Lockheed Martin, the Ministry of Defence's Service Complaints Commission, the Government of Alberta, the Royal British Legion and EADS UK.[1]
Specialist Group Military Intelligence
A slide presentation titled "Alternative Stories in Strategic Understanding", from July 2015, lists among its presenters "Capt Josh Arnold-Forster, Specialist Group Military Intelligence", alongside "Lt Col Thammy Evans" and "Maj Kristian Gustafson". The document is one of a set of unknown provenance that purport to be internal SGMI files; its authenticity has not been established.[2] He is also named in a list of SGMI members published by Anonymous in January 2019, which spells his name "Arnold-Foster" and includes a biography describing him as a "military Reservist".[3]
Integrity Initiative
The Institute for Statecraft expert team list describes Arnold-Forster, with a "(DV)" marker, as a "Former Special Adviser to UK Defence Secretary; military Reservist infowar specialist" who "provides coaching and mentoring to very senior officers in public presentation and strategic advice on influence and counter influence activities in a 'New Media' environment".[4] The Working Group on Syria, Propaganda and Media read the marker as developed vetting.[5] In the Institute's "Tor Team" table his role is "Senior mentor" (15 years): "Mentor on infowar and counter measures to senior government officials".[6]
