Kristian Gustafson

Occupation Academic

Kristian Gustafson is Reader in Intelligence and War and Deputy Director of the Brunel Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies at Brunel University London.[1] He is not on the list of Specialist Group Military Intelligence (SGMI) members published by Anonymous, but a 2015 SGMI presentation names him as a presenter.[2]

Career

According to Brunel University London, Gustafson took a PhD at Downing College, Cambridge, was a senior lecturer in War Studies at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and "has served in the Canadian Army and as a Reservist in the British Army". The university says he has done consultancy for the MOD's Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre, "including an integral role in developing UK Joint Intelligence Doctrine", and work for the Cabinet Office, and that in 2013 he was an intelligence adviser to the Afghan Ministry of Interior's General Command Police Special Units.[1] His books include Hostile Intent: U.S. Covert Operations in Chile, 1964–1974 (2007).[3]

Specialist Group Military Intelligence

A slide presentation titled "Alternative Stories in Strategic Understanding", from July 2015, lists its presenters as "Lt Col Thammy Evans", "Maj Kristian Gustafson" and "Capt Josh Arnold-Forster" of the Specialist Group Military Intelligence; its file metadata gives him as author. It includes slides on "Additional Russian perspectives" and "10 Reasons Russia Invaded Ukraine". The document is one of a set of unknown provenance that purport to be internal SGMI files; its authenticity has not been established.[2]
