Friends of Kupat Hakahal Kirhyat Sefer is a UK registered charity (no. 1113041). According to the UK Charity Commission its activities comprise: 'The relief of poverty sickness and infirmity among persons of the Jewish faith throughout the world and in particular by supporting the charitable activities of Kupat Hakahal Kiryat Sefer'.[1]
However, Kiryat Sefer, more generally known as Modi'in Illit, is an illegal Israeli settlement in the occupied West Bank.[2]
One of its directors, David Chontow, is the director of a number of charities that operate in Israel, including Keren Eretz Yisroel (charity no. 1112935). The latter has received funding from the Hart N. and Simona Hasten Family Foundation in the US, which provides funding to a wide range of the pro-settler causes.

The organisation became a registered charity in 2005.[1]

Controversies and conflicts
- Filing compliance: All 5 annual returns and accounts on the Charity Commission record were received by their due dates, and the register states "Charity reporting is up to date (on time)".[4][5]
- Overlapping trusteeships: Mr G B Halibard is also a trustee of The Doughty Charity Trust (274977). Mr Leib Levison is also a trustee of Project S E E D (281307), Ponevez Institutions Bnei-Braq Israel (1123051), Areivim (1125655), Taharos Beiyun (1151822), Torah Vodaas Limited (1092266), Friends Of Orchos Torah (1178879), Friends Of Dr Adler's Surgery (1191581), The Friends Of Yeshivas Brisk (1005809), Beis Brucha Ltd (1131109).[6]
