Funding in Israel
- FY2025 Israel grants (note 7, PDF p.22–23): Natal £150,000; KANAF (Partnerships) £100,000; New Israel Fund £100,000 (Nasij pilot, Arab-Israeli civil society, Shatil); Desert Stars (Kohvey Hamidbar) £100,000 (Jusidman campus, phase A); Sikkuy-Aufoq £90,000; Givat Haviva £75,000; Abraham Initiatives £50,000; Funding Collaborative on Crime and Violence in Arab Society £50,000; Hand in Hand £50,000; Jerusalem Foundation £50,000 (Shai Doron Fellowship); Darkenu – Yotzim Le'Peula £30,000 (Arabic-language Democrat-TV); KESHET £26,000; Adam Institute for Democracy and Peace £20,000 (Bedouin youth); Brothers and Sisters in Arms – for Democracy £20,000; I'lam £20,000; Matzmichim £20,000 (Bedouin schools); Maslan £10,000 (Bedouin social-work students).[20]
- Israel applications are invited from sectors "which support improved relations between Jews and Arabs, support of refugees and asylum seekers and improved mental health"; staff visits to Israel were suspended.[20] UK grants included Nudge Community Builders £250,000, Darwin College £200,000 and Groundwork NI £100,895.[20]
Israeli partners
Jewish–Arab shared-society organisations (Sikkuy-Aufoq, Givat Haviva, Abraham Initiatives, Hand in Hand, New Israel Fund), Bedouin projects in the Negev, and mental-health bodies (Natal, KANAF).[20]
Activity beyond the Green Line and support for the IDF
Findings are graded by confidence. "Partner" findings concern the Israeli recipient organisation, not proven use of UK funds.
| Finding | Confidence |
|---|---|
| No recipient or project is placed in the occupied territories in the accounts; the places named (the Negev, Bedouin communities) lie inside the 1949 line.[20] | Low |
Support for the IDF: No IDF or military funding is stated. The trust gave £20,000 to Brothers and Sisters in Arms – for Democracy for work on "liberal democratic values in the Knesset committees".[20]
Controversies and regulatory action
- No Charity Commission inquiry, Official Warning or Gazette insolvency notice naming this charity was found, and its register entry shows no regulatory alert;[21] it is not among the charities named in the Commission's cheque-cashing class-inquiry announcements (May, September and December 2025) or in the September 2026 statement of results.[22][23][24][25] The charities in the Commission's settlements class inquiry (opened August 2026) have not been named, so it is not known whether this charity is among them.[26]
- Investments in funds linked to the Chairman. The trust holds £236,257 in George Capital Real Estate Fund LLP and £342,282 in George Capital Real Estate Fund 2 LLP, in which the Chairman, the Hon Robert A Rayne, has interests of 11.25% and 7.19% through SQP Ltd. It also holds 2.40% of LMS Capital plc and 0.54% of Derwent London plc. The Rayne Foundation recharged £169,286 in costs.[20] A 2003 capture of the Rayne Foundation's website stated that its administration was "provided as a donation in kind through London Merchant Securities plc".[27]
- Grant to a body linked to a trustee. Chickenshed received £25,000; Lady Jane Rayne is its Honorary President Emeritus.[20]
