Reputation management sister company
In August 2017, Gallagher co-founded a second 'reputation management' agency Pagefield Global Counsel, focused on 'litigation, crisis and international affairs'. It was set up with Stuart Leach, formerly crisis and litigation chief at the scandal-hit and now defunct, Bell Pottinger. Seventeen of Bell Pottinger's 22-strong crisis comms team also joined Pagefield Global Counsel. A further six former Bell Pottinger employees were expected to join Pagefield itself.[1]
Activities
Brexit
In September 2016 Pagefield's founder Mark Gallagher was among the speakers at a day long meeting of 'hard Brexiters'. The day's discussions resulted in a blueprint for Britain’s total departure from the EU co-published by the Legatum Institute and the Centre for Social Justice.
Also attending the meeting at Oxford University's All Souls College were Ministers, senior officials from the Brexit departments, Number 10 and Cabinet Office and legal and trade experts, academics and former Cabinet Ministers, including: David Davis, the secretary of state for exiting the European Union; John Redwood who led the day's meeting; Peter Lilley; Iain Duncan Smith; Owen Paterson; Shanker Singham of the Legatum Institute; Sheila Lawlor, director of the think tank Politeia; James Arnell, Partner at Charterhouse Capital; Bernard Jenkin and William Cash.
A 'leading Brexiteer', Gallagher counts himself as a 'social and economic liberal' who campaigned 'to leave the EU cartel'.[2]
Brexit' Secretary David Davis registered a meeting with Pagefield in December 2016.
Building the case for new nuclear after Fukushima
This article is part of the Nuclear Spin project of Spinwatch. |
In August 2012 Pagefield was brought in to help strengthen EDF Energy's case for building a controversial proposed third nuclear power reactor at Sizewell in Suffolk, UK. It won the six-figure strategic comms account after a pitch process thought to have been initiated one year beforehand.
PR Week wrote that Pagefield "is expected to play a key role in the development of EDF’s narrative around the value of a new nuclear power reactor, liaising with the public, media and stakeholders such as the Environment Agency and local authorities. Partner Wendy Blair is handling the account. Mark Gallagher will provide senior-level strategic counsel. [3]
According to Pagefield's website in November 2012, Pagefield executive Rory Cronin is "spearheading EDF Energy’s new nuclear social media strategy". [4]
