The groups states that its purpose is as follows:
- 'To promote and inform on the economic and commercial benefits of the UK wine and spirit trade; to inform and stimulate debate on issues of relevance to the trade and to consumers; to introduce parliamentarians to members of the trade from their constituencies and, where appropriate, to invite and lobby ministers.'[1]

According to its website the Wine and Spirit Trade Association 'acts as group's secretariat and provides wine for the group's AGMs.'[2]
