Funding in Israel

  • FY2025 grants £83,328, including "£11,080 to Torat Simchah in Jerusalem, Israel, and £8,000 to Chai Ami, Keren Hatzedoko Vhachesed Letzion, based in Tzefat, Israel"; the balance was grants under £10,000 (PDF p.9).[2]

Israeli partners

Torat Simchah (Jerusalem) and Chai Ami, Keren Hatzedoko Vhachesed Letzion (Tzefat); no street addresses are given.[2]

Activity beyond the Green Line and support for the IDF

Findings are graded by confidence. "Partner" findings concern the Israeli recipient organisation, not proven use of UK funds.

Evidence of activity beyond the 1949 armistice line
Finding Confidence
Chai Ami, Keren Hatzedoko Vhachesed Letzion – "based in Tzefat, Israel" (Safed, inside Israel's pre-1967 lines).[2] Low
Torat Simchah – "in Jerusalem, Israel"; no neighbourhood is given, so it cannot be placed either side of the 1949 line.[2] Not established

Support for the IDF: No IDF or military funding is stated.[2]

Controversies and regulatory action

  • No Charity Commission inquiry, Official Warning or Gazette insolvency notice naming this charity was found, and its register entry shows no regulatory alert;[9] it is not among the charities named in the Commission's cheque-cashing class-inquiry announcements (May, September and December 2025) or in the September 2026 statement of results.[10][11][12][13] The charities in the Commission's settlements class inquiry (opened August 2026) have not been named, so it is not known whether this charity is among them.[14]
  • Another charity's pages in the filed accounts. Pages 4, 5 and 7 of the PDF filed for Yankov are headed "British Friends of Tiferes Chaim" – a separate charity (1121054) chaired by the same Julian Lewin: a trustees' report continuation signed by Julian Lewin on 8 July 2026, an independent examiner's report addressed to the trustees of British Friends of Tiferes Chaim and signed "Mr L. Lerner FCA", and a statement of financial position showing net assets of £3,436 – figures inconsistent with Yankov's own funds of £478,925 (PDF p.4–7).[2] The only examiner's report in the filing is the one addressed to British Friends of Tiferes Chaim.
  • Grant totals disagree. The trustees' report gives aggregate grants of £93,960; the notes give £83,328 (PDF p.3, 9).[2] The report also says a "net current liabilities situation is not of concern having regard to the ongoing support of the charity's loan creditors" (PDF p.3).[2]

Land and property

The register records that the charity owns and/or leases land or property.[1] No title registers were purchased; the HM Land Registry interactive search blocked automated access.[20] Candidate titles and addresses (CCOD dataset and register/accounts data):[21]

  • Syndicated property investments £834,966 at 30 September 2025 at the trustees' fair value; properties not identified – Accounts (PDF p.10); the trust is unincorporated, so no CCOD company match is possible (source: [2])
