Trust deed, trustees and income (filed accounts)
The trust was created by a deed of 1971 between Louis John Mintz "of 2 Hyde Park Street London" (the settlor) and David John Brecher "of 78 Brook Street Grosvenor Square London" and Toby Hoffman "of 25 Harley Street London W.1" ("the original Trustees"); these are historical addresses from the deed.[2] It was registered on 17 May 1972; its objects are "FOR SUCH CHARITABLE PURPOSES AS THE TRUSTEES SHALL FROM TIME TO TIME DETERMINE".[3] Its accounts are headed "Mintz Family Foundation"; its 2012 Summary Information Return gives the name "THE FAMILY FOUNDATIONS TRUST" and was "submitted online by MR RICHARD MINTZ on 04 February 2013".[4]
The trustees named in the accounts for 2010–11 to 2012–13 are R. B Mintz and P. G Mintz; the 2016–17 accounts name "Mr R B Mintz" and "Mrs P Mintz", and the 2017–18 accounts "Mr R B Mintz OBE" and "Mrs P Mintz".[5][6][7][8][9] The 2011 accounts say income "included donations received of £200,000 from Anglo Scottish Properties PLC ('ASP') a company in which the Trustees have a direct investment"; in 2011–12 the trust received "£800,000 in the form of unquoted investments" from the Mintz family as well as £200,000 in cash.[5][6]

Sources: the accounts for each year; the 2015 UJIA figure is £20,000 to UJIA and £30,000 to "UJIA - Children at Risk", and the 2015 WIZO figure is £1,500 to WIZO and £250 to Mill Hill Wizo.[14][15][16][10][11][12][17][13][5][6][7][8][9] The 2016 figures are the comparatives in the 2017 accounts. A blank cell means no grant is shown in the accounts held, not necessarily that none was made.
Activity beyond the Green Line and support for the IDF
Findings are graded by confidence. "Partner" findings concern the recipient organisation, not proven use of UK funds.
| Finding | Confidence |
|---|---|
| No grant in the accounts held is to a recipient located beyond the Green Line.[7][9] | Not established |
| Small grants to British Emunah (2008–09), WIZO (2013–14 to 2016–17) and Mizrachi UK Israel Support Trust (2015–17), UK charities whose Israeli partners are graded on their own Powerbase pages; onward use of these grants is not stated.[8] | Low – via UK intermediaries |
Support for the IDF: The trust gave £148,400 to UK Friends of AWIS in the years to 5 April 2008–2018, including £10,000 in each of 2013–14 and 2014–15.[14][15][12][7][9] That charity (registered charity 1084272, working name "UK FRIENDS OF AWIS") has as its objects "THE RELIEF OF NEED AND SUFFERING OF SERVING AND DISCHARGED ISRAELI SOLDIERS AND THEIR FAMILIES" and "THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION OF SERVING AND DISCHARGED ISRAELI SOLDIERS".[18] It also gave £5,000 to Beit Halochem in 2017–18.[9] Grade: High – support for serving and former IDF soldiers, by the recipient's registered objects.
Support for the Israeli military
Grants. The trust gave £148,400 to UK Friends of AWIS, whose registered objects are the relief of need and suffering of serving and discharged Israeli soldiers and their families, in the years to 5 April 2008–2018,[14][15][12][9] and £5,000 to Beit Halochem UK in 2017–18.[9]
Prior scrutiny. In February 2024 David Miller, writing for PressTV (critical), named the trust among about twenty charities that had donated to UK Friends of AWIS, and it is listed on the Powerbase page UK AWIS - supporters.[19] No Charity Commission inquiry or warning concerning the trust was found.
