The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Food and Drink Manufacturing (APPGFDM) was formed to represent the food and drink manufacturing industry in Parliament. Its remit is 'to consider issues of concern to the food and drink manufacturing industry and raise awareness of these matters in Parliament.' [1]

Activities and aims

  • provide a forum for debate and dialogue about issues related to food and drink manufacturing
  • inform parliamentarians about the issues impacting the industry
  • 'promote the UK food and drink manufacturing sector's interests in Parliament' [2]

Purpose

The APPGFDM was set up 'with an intention to':

  • counter incorrect and misleading information and statements in Parliament about the food and drink manufacturing industry
  • act as a critical friend to the industry by facilitating an important dialogue between Parliamentarians and industry representatives and raising issues that APPG members believe industry should address
  • provide a point of reference for any parliamentarian looking to understand aspects of food and drink manufacturing
  • develop productive working relationships with other relevant APPGs where there is a common interest in issue impacting the UK food chain
  • broadly encourage the government to take a proportionate, evidence-based and consistent approach to policy and regulation impacting the industry. [3]
