James (Jimmy) McLoughlin is a former lobbyist, now special adviser on business relations at Number 10 Downing Street.
Appointed in August 2016, McLoughlin had worked on May's leadership campaign. [1]In 2008, he had worked on Boris Johnson's 2008 mayor of London election campaign. [2]
Until then, McLoughlin was previously deputy head of policy at the Institute of Directors from June 2014 and before that was associate partner at PR and lobbying firm Bell Pottinger. [3]
He is the son of former Conservative transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin, who was appointed Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster by the incoming prime minister Theresa May in July 2016. [4]

In 2009 he joined lobbyists Fleishman-Hillard as an account executive and later an account manager and then in 2011 moved to Bell Pottinger. [5]
In 2014 he joined the Institute of Directors as its deputy head of policy.[6] At the IoD, McLoughlin reported to James Sproule, the chief economist and director of policy.[7]
