NATO and the Greater Middle East Conference
The NATO and the Greater Middle East Conference took place between 17-19 October 2003. The conference was co-orgainsed between the Prague Security Studies Institute and the Association for International Affairs[1]. Two of the cental questions that the conference was designed to answer were as follows:
- 1) Does the concept of the Greater Middle East, a shorthand for the vast geographical area from the Maghreb in the west to the borders of Pakistan in the east, actually make sense?
- 2) Is the involvement of a Euro–Atlantic military alliance in the numerous conflicts, crises and transformation processes of a small part of Africa and a large part of Asia at all relevant, thinkable and/or desirable?[2]
