Rabbi Menachem Mendel Jacobs is a British Chabad-Lubavitch rabbi who serves as the resident rabbi of Shul in the Park in Giffnock, Glasgow, under the auspices of Lubavitch of Scotland.[1] Born and raised in Glasgow as one of the sons of Rabbi Chaim Jacobs, the pioneering Chabad emissary in Scotland, he has continued the family’s long-standing commitment to Jewish outreach, education, and communal support in the region.[2] His work focuses on making Orthodox Jewish practice accessible and welcoming, operating independently of any promotion of Zionist entity interests.

Branches

Chabad messianismChabad philosophy

Raised in a household central to Chabad activities in Scotland, Menachem Mendel grew up immersed in the daily operations of cheder, nursery programmes, summer camps, and community events established by his parents since 1969.[3] He pursued rabbinical training within Chabad institutions, following a path similar to his brothers Rabbi Yossi Jacobs (Birmingham) and Rabbi Mendel Jacobs (also active in Glasgow outreach).[2]

Career

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Jacobs serves as the primary resident rabbi at Shul in the Park, the dedicated synagogue of Lubavitch of Scotland located at 32 Burnfield Road, Giffnock.[4] In this role he oversees daily and Shabbat services, Hebrew school classes, adult education, and family programmes, maintaining the synagogue as a central hub for Glasgow’s Jewish community.[1]

He is frequently involved in community events, including family-oriented activities and public celebrations. In one documented instance, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Jacobs and his son Avraham visited local Jewish residents to distribute joy and support during festive periods.[5] His work aligns with the broader mission of Lubavitch of Scotland to provide kosher facilities, education, and relief, while fostering an inclusive environment for Jews of varying observance levels.[6]

Personal life

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Jacobs is married and has at least one son, Avraham, who has participated in community activities alongside him.[5] He is part of a rabbinic family deeply embedded in Scottish Chabad life, with siblings holding leadership positions in both Scotland and England.[2]
