The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Food and Drink Manufacturing (APPGFDM) was founded in 2013 in order 'To consider the issues of concern to the food and drink manufacturing industry and raise awareness of these matters in Parliament.' [1]

Activities & Aims

'*Provide a forum for debate and dialogue about issues related to food and drink manufacturing

  • Ensure Parliamentarians remain informed about the issues impacting the industry
  • Broadly promote the UK food and drink manufacturing sector's interests in Parliament' [2]

Background

The APPGFDM was set up with an intention to serve the following remit, as outlined by its website:

  • Counter incorrect and misleading information and statements in Parliament about the food and drink manufacturing industry
  • Act as a critical friend to the UK food and drink manufacturing industry by facilitating an important dialogue between Parliamentarians and industry representatives and raising issues that APPG members believe that industry should look to address
  • Provide a point of reference for any Parliamentarian looking to understand aspects of food and drink manufacturing
  • Develop productive working relationships with other relevant All-Party Parliamentary Groups where there is a common interest in issue impacting the UK food chain
  • Broadly encourage the government to take a proportionate, evidence-based and consistent approach to policy and regulation impacting the industry. [3]
