International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations

The International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations (IFPMA) was established in 1968 and describes itself as 'a non-profit, non-governmental Organization (NGO) representing national industry associations and companies from both developed and developing countries'. Its members consists of companies in areas of research-based pharma-ceutical, biotech and vaccine.

The main objectives of IFPMA are described as being 'to encourage a global policy environment that is conducive to innovation in medicine', to 'foster collaborative relationships and partnerships with international organizations, national institutions, governments and non-governmental organizations' and to coordinate its members efforts and share experience.

• Fred Hassan (USA) - Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of the Schering-Plough Corporation. Hassan was previously chairman of the Board of Directors of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) and chairman of the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey. Haasan has also in the past worked for Wyeth and Sandoz Pharmaceuticals (now Novartis).
