Gavin Hewitt

Gavin Hewitt CMG has been Chief Executive of the Scotch Whisky Association since October 2003. He is also a Board Member of Scotland’s Futures Forum Alcohol and Drugs Project. Before this Hewitt served as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Belgium (2001 – 2003),Finland (1997 – 2000) and Croatia (1994 – 1997). His early career was with the Diplomatic Service where he became part of the British Negotiating Team in Brussels for the UK’s accession to the European Communities. He was made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in 1995 for outstanding overseas service.[1]
In November 2011 Hewitt was elected as president of the European Spirits Organisation (CEPS). He will continue in his full time post as SWA Chief executive. [2]
