Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is an independent non-governmental financial services regulator. It is funded by charging the firms they regulate fees to carry out their financial activities.[1]
They are based in Canary Wharf.
History
It was established by the Financial Services Act of 2012, which was legislated after the financial crash, to 'set out a new system for regulating financial services in order to protect and improve the UK's economy.' The act abolished the Financial Services Authority and split it's responsibilities between two new agencies the Prudential Regulation Authority and the FCA and the Bank of England.[2]

- John Griffith-Jones, chairman. Was at KPMG from 1975 to 2012, notably as CEO of KPMG's UK firm, chairman and senior of KPMG UK and joint chairman of KPMG Europe.[3]
- Andrew Bailey deputy governor for Prudential Regulation, CEO of the Prudential Regulation Authority and a non-executive board member of the FCA.[4]
- Catherine Bradley, non-executive board member. Has worked at banks Societe Generale, Credit Suisse, Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, BNP Paribas, UBS amd Merrill Lynch.[5]
- Amanda Davidson, non-executive board member. Director of independent financial adviser Baigrie Davies. Former director of Holden Meehan, Chase De Vere, on a number of committees at the FSA and deputy chair of the Association of Independent Financial Advisers.[6]
- Amelia Fletcher, non-executive board member. A professor of competition policy at the University of East Anglia. Former chief economist at the Office of Fair Trading, economic consultant at Frontier Economics and London Economics.[7]
- Mick McAteer, non-executive board member. Founder and director of think tank The Financial Inclusion Centre, chairman of the European Commission's Financial Services User Group, board member of the CARITAS advisory board, member of the Registry Trust Consumer Panel and a member of the ESMA Financial Innovation Standing Committee Consultative Working Group. Former board member of the FSA, principal policy adviser at Which? and spent five years at two major fund management firms in London.[8]
- Tracey McDermott, executive board member and director of supervision – investment, wholesale & specialists. A trained solicitor, McDermott has worked in law firms in the UK, US and Brussels. Was director of the enforcement and financial crime division at the FSA.[9]
- Jane Platt, non-executive board member. Has worked at Mercury Asset Management, BZW, Barclays Global Investors, Barclays Stockbrokers, Barclays Bank Trust Company and Reuters. Is currently the chief executive of National Savings and Investments.[10]
