‬‬ Tyrie has expressed strong support for fracking yet is preparing to oppose it in his own constituency in what could be a test case for shale exploration in national parks reports The Times newspaper.

Tyrie has told constituents he is “very unlikely” to support an application by Celtique Energy to drill an exploratory well in Fernhurst, West Sussex [3] (near the South Downs National Park).

Tyrie's constituency includes three oil and gas licence blocks, all awarded to IGas by the Oil and Gas Authority under the 14th licensing round in 2015. All three are conventional licenses: there are plans to conduct 2D seismic surveying, but no applications are currently underway. [4]
