“The network of '''national partner organisations''' (NPOs) was created by CSR Europe to promote corporate social responsibility (CSR) at national level, and also to reflect the rich diversity of practices and experiences in different countries.

The network, present throughout western Europe, and progressively in central and eastern Europe, constitutes a transnational business response to the European business and political agenda on CSR.

The '''NPO'''s are independent CSR organisations, and together reach out to more than 1400 member companies.

Background

CSR Europe's website states that the organisation was established in 1995 by senior European business leaders in response to an appeal by the European Commission President Jacques Delors. In 2009, they describe themselves as 'the leading European business network for corporate social responsibility with around 75 multinational corporations and 25 national partner organisations as members'[1]. They go on to describe themselves as a platform for:

  • Connecting companies to share best practice on CSR
  • Innovating new projects between business and stakeholders
  • Shaping the modern day business and political agenda on sustainability and competitiveness

Members

CSR describes how their membership enables companies to exchange ideas, connect to stakeholders and access expertise and information. They also go on to advertise how their membership bring opportunities of engaging in policy debates 'both at a practical and high level'[2].
