Maria Allen is a lobbyist who worked as a special adviser on media relations and policy for the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) from 2013 until 2015. She initially worked for DECC ministers Greg Barker MP and Baroness Verma, and then Amber Rudd, previously parliamentary under secretary of state, and then minister for energy and climate change.
Allen was originally appointed a spad at the insistence of prime minister David Cameron, to support the Conservative ministers at DECC. [1]
After leaving DECC in March 2015 Allen worked for two months on the Conservative Party's UK general election campaign. She subsequently took up a three-month consultancy role with Jaguar Land Rover and was appointed corporate affairs manager in September 2015. [2] Despite her move back into a lobbying role Allen did not seek advice or permission from the UK Advisory Committee on Business Appointments.

A former lobbyist, Allen worked as the public affairs manager (account director) for high-profile lobbying firm Burson-Marsteller for six years from 2007 until 2013. Before this, she was an intern at Societe Generale Equipment Finance in 2005 for six months. [3]
Allen was also a researcher for the Institute of Economic Affairs, a seminal free market think-tank based in London, in 2005. [3]
Education
Allen attended the London School of Journalism in 2010. She also obtained an MSc in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2007. Allen went to the University of Bristol where she studied Politics and French in 2002. [3]
