Controversies and regulatory action

  • No Charity Commission inquiry, Official Warning or Gazette insolvency notice naming this charity was found, and its register entry shows no regulatory alert;[10] it is not among the charities named in the Commission's cheque-cashing class-inquiry announcements (May, September and December 2025) or in the September 2026 statement of results.[11][12][13][14] The charities in the Commission's settlements class inquiry (opened August 2026) have not been named, so it is not known whether this charity is among them.[15]
  • Interest-bearing loans to other charities. The report says "The charity has loans owing from other charities and charged interest above market rate. Loan interest receivable came to £34,260." Other debtors were £437,624 (2024: £702,670), and the borrowers are not named (PDF p.6, 11, 17).[2]
  • Trustee's company. M E Fuerst is a director of Longbranch Homes Limited, which lent the charity money at commercial interest; the balance owed to it was £20,764 at the year end, although the balance sheet shows only £3,273 of other creditors besides bank loans (PDF p.11, 17, 19).[2]
  • Reserves misstated. The report gives free reserves ("net current assets") as £988,740, which is the 2024 figure; the 2025 balance sheet shows net current assets of £437,241 (PDF p.7, 11).[2]

  • Leasehold property, Bury Old Road, Prestwich M25 (title MAN329770, leasehold; proprietor added 10/01/2019) – Name-only CCOD match: proprietor recorded under the charity's exact name; the accounts mention a lease taken to enable a synagogue to operate; not verified against a title register (source: [22])
