The Charity Commission has opened an inquiry into the charity as part of the class investigation of charities connected to a company cashing cheques. A notice of intended dissolution of the CIO, on the CIO’s own application, was dated 18 March 2026. The annual return for the year to 31 May 2025 is overdue.[1][2]
Civil Society and Charity Times named TTBA Belz among 12 charities added in December 2025 to that statutory class inquiry (105 charities; cheques cashed through a Hackney company, December 2021–March 2023; aggregate about £22 million).[3]
Keren Association Limited accounts list a grant of £91,600 to “TTBA Belz” in 2022. The National Lottery Community Fund recorded an award of £20,000 (9 February 2024) described as “Brilliant Bookworms Mar 2024 to Aug 2025”.[4][5]
A separately incorporated company, TTBA Belz Limited (10537670), has a director Akiva Schreiber at the same Bethune Road address. It is not the CIO on the charity register.[6]
Objects
The advancement of education and the promotion of the Jewish faith in accordance with the Orthodox Jewish faith for Orthodox Jews and for the benefit of the public throughout the United Kingdom and worldwide in particular by:
• supporting and funding any school or educational institution of the Orthodox Jewish faith including assistance with transportation to and from these educational establishments
• providing facilities for recreation and other leisure time activities for children and young people
• providing grants to people to supplement income and alleviate poverty.[1]
