Controversies and regulatory action
- No Charity Commission inquiry, Official Warning or Gazette insolvency notice naming this charity was found, and its register entry shows no regulatory alert;[11] it is not among the charities named in the Commission's cheque-cashing class-inquiry announcements (May, September and December 2025) or in the September 2026 statement of results.[12][13][14][15] The charities in the Commission's settlements class inquiry (opened August 2026) have not been named, so it is not known whether this charity is among them.[16]
- Inconsistent dates. The trustees' report is signed by J Posen and dated "10 February 2026", but the register records the accounts as received on 5 February 2026; the balance sheet says "Approved by the board on 15/02/2024".[3][1]
- Examiner's fee but no examiner's report. The accounts charge an "Independent examiner's fee" of £720 (2024: £1,140), but the filed document contains no independent examiner's report.[3]
- Stale headings and references. The funds note for 2025 is headed "2022" and "2021", with rows "As at 1st July 2022" and "Funds at 30th June 2023"; the statement of trustees' responsibilities refers to the SORP of "March 2005"; and the report proposes "the reappointment of Whiteside and Davies" at "the forthcoming general meeting", although the accountants are named as Whiteside Accountants.[3]
- Unnamed recipients. No recipient of the £33,094 is named; the 2018 report said only that "The charity supported a number of mainly local (Tyne & Wear) causes to alleviate poverty" (£81,399 in 2018; 2017: £26,619).[3][5]
- Property syndicate investments. The 2018 accounts show investments of £73,167, described as "shares acquired in property syndicates", without naming the syndicates; the 2025 balance sheet shows no investments.[5][3]
