Occupation Former politician; journalist
Known for Conservative Party MP for Blackpool North, 1992–1997

Harold Elletson is a former Conservative Party Member of Parliament for Blackpool North, who sat from 1992 to 1997.[1] He coordinated the German and Austrian "clusters" of the Integrity Initiative, according to documents published by Anonymous.[2] He is also named in a list of members of the Specialist Group Military Intelligence (SGMI) published by Anonymous in January 2019, which gives only a private email address for him.[3]

Parliament

Elletson was elected for Blackpool North at the general election of 9 April 1992, and his membership ended at the dissolution of 1997.[1]

Integrity Initiative

The Institute for Statecraft expert team list describes him as "Former journalist and member of UK Parliament; expert in Russian military-political relations; Media and communications specialist; author of a major report for the Institute for Statecraft on Russian information warfare in Germany; development of the German and Austrian clusters".[4] Other documents published by Anonymous show:

  • Elletson as "Coordinator" of the German and Austrian clusters, and "Germany Cluster Leader";[2]
  • a 2016 production schedule planning a 10,000-word paper on "Russian penetration in Germany" by "Harold Elletson, Ben Nimmo et al";[5]
  • a staff payments table with an entry "Researcher (H Elletson) £1900 pm", at 40 per cent of £50,000 a year;[6]
  • a German cluster interim report of October 2018 by Hannes Adomeit, which states: "Harold Elletson: All activities have been and will be coordinated with him".[7]

Allegation of intelligence links

The Working Group on Syria, Propaganda and Media described Elletson in December 2018 as a "former MP and sometime MI6 agent who supervises the German Cluster". It cited a 2002 report that "when Elletson became an MP in 1992, John Major personally authorised the intelligence service to continue using him as a 'secret contact'".[8]
