Career

Mobbs joined Slough Estates in 1961 becoming managing director ten years later. Slough started with a syndicate of businessmen who bought an ex-Army site from the government that included Sir (later Lord) Percival Perry, the founder of Aims of Industry and the managing director of the U.K. branch of the Ford Motor Company, and Noel Mobbs (later Sir), founder of the Slough Trading Company.

Mobbs joined Barclays in 1973 becoming chairman from 85-86. He was on the DTI panel on deregulation 1988. Slough features highly on his areas of interest from his presidency of the Chamber of Commerce (1969-72), Mobbs was also Vice-president of the British Chambers of Commerce in 1976 and the British Property Federation (1979-81) and a member of the Council of the Institute of Directors.

He was also chairman of Bovis Homes, and a director of Howard de Walden Estates, which owns 120 acres of central London, and of Cookson Group. A "notably robust proponent of free enterprise", Mobbs was chairman of the Right-wing pressure group Aims of Industry, treasurer of the Conservative Party, deputy chairman of the Airey Neave Trust, and chairman of the council of Britain's only private university at Buckingham.[1] Mobbs was also the chairman of the Conservative party anonymous funding group the City and Industrial Liaison Council[2].
