Forward Scotland's mission is to 'promote sustainable development in Scotland through innovative practical projects and influencing policy'[1]

Specific aims are:

  • to develop and support innovative practical projects that demonstrate the benefits of sustainable development
  • to influence policies and programmes at all levels, promoting a more integrated and sustainable approach to development
  • to promote awareness, understanding and adoption of best practice in sustainable development.

Its aims are to help build sustainable communities and sustainable businesses. It is funded by both private and public funds. Some of these funds are given to local environmental projects.

The majority of its board is made up of people from business backgrounds. Including a member from the Scottish Parliament Business Exchange, one from BP and one from Diageo, which was recently found to be the biggest polluter in Scotland by SEPA.[2]
