Tom McKillop
Sir Tom McKillop Deputy Chairman, Royal Bank of Scotland plc. Sir Tom recently left his position of CEO of AstraZeneca taking on his new role as deputy-Chairman of the Royal Bank of Scotland in September 2005.
AstraZeneca was formed on 6 April 1999 through the merger of Astra AB of Sweden and Zeneca Group PLC of the UK – two companies with similar science-based cultures and a shared vision of the pharmaceutical industry. Before the merger, Tom had been Chief Executive Officer Designate of the Zeneca Group since 1998, having previously served as Executive Director of the Zeneca Group and Chief Executive Officer of Zeneca Pharmaceuticals.
He joined ICI's Corporate Research Laboratory in 1969, following research work after obtaining a PhD and BSc Hons in Chemistry. He moved to ICI Pharmaceuticals Division where he held a number of positions including Technical Director with international responsibility for research, development and production.
He is a non-executive director with Lloyds TSB Group PLC. He is also Vice President of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations, Pro-Chancellor of Leicester University and Chairman of the British Pharma Group and the NorthWest Science Council.
He is married with three children and his leisure interests include sport, reading, carpentry and music.
