Graeme Wilson was the UK Government's political press secretary until June 2016. At the time, Wilson was hired by Craig Oliver, the director of communications for David Cameron, in August 2013. [1]
Wilson was on a salary of £110,000 a year for his role as Government's political press secretary. [2]
Prior to this appointment, Wilson was the deputy political editor of The Sun. [3] Wilson joined the tabloid owned by Rupert Murdoch in 2007. He has covered politics for other newspapers since 1997. [4]
Wilson replaced Gabby Bertin, who is set to become director of external relations when she returns to Parliament from maternity leave.
It was felt that Wilson's well- regarded reputation would help to improve Cameron's relationship with the press. [5] James Forsyth says of Wilson
- “The high regard in which Wilson is held will boost relations between Number 10 and the political print press”. [1]
Revolving Door
After leaving No. 10, he was hired by the financial lobbying firm Tulchan Communications as a partner, to work in the firm’s policy advisory practice. [6]
