Matthew Hancock

Matthew Hancock has been the Conservative MP for West Suffolk since 2010. In 2012, he was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the UK (Department for Education) (Jointly with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills).[1] In October 2013, he was promoted to Minister of State in the same departments.[2]

In the July 2014 reshuffle, he replaced Michael Fallon as Minister of State at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and Minister of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change. He was also appointed Minister of State for Portsmouth.[3]

Background

Matthew's first job was with his family computer software business. Later, he worked as an economist at the Bank of England and in 2005 moved to work for the then Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne. [4]

Education

Matthew John David Hancock was educated at Farndon County Primary School, West Cheshire College and The King’s School, Chester. He gained a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Exeter College, University of Oxford, and a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge. [4]
