Background
The Energy Retail Association (ERA) was an industry lobby group set up in 2003 to represent the major electricity and gas suppliers in the domestic market in Great Britain. In April 2012, it merged with the Association of Electricity Producers and UK Business Council for Sustainable Energy to become Energy UK.[1]
The ERA said it "works closely with government, NGOs, charities and other organisations in England, Scotland and Wales to ensure a coordinated approach to dealing with the key issues affecting our industry and the British consumer".<ref=ERA>Energy Retail Association, "ERA About us.", archived page, accessed on 29 January 2013</ref>
All the main energy suppliers, operating in the residential market at the time, were members: British Gas, EDF Energy, RWE npower, E.ON, Scottish Power, and Scottish and Southern Energy.'<ref=ERA></ref>
