Nachala (נחלה, "inheritance") is an Israeli settlement movement, directed by Daniella Weiss, that calls for Jewish settlement in the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon and Syria.[2][3] On 8 December 2024, after Uri Tzafon said families had set up an outpost at Maroun al-Ras in Lebanon, Nachala said the answer to the war in Syria was "the taking of territory", that "Jewish settlement is the only thing that will bring regional stability", and that "the land of Israel is the property of our ancestors and it must not be abandoned to foreigners". The army said the Uri Tzafon encampment had not crossed the border.[4] The UK froze Nachala's assets in May 2025.[1]

West Bank outposts

The EU describes Nachala as aiming to promote "Jewish settlements and illegal outposts in the West Bank". It says outposts linked to the movement, including Evyatar, Maoz Esther, Oz Zion and Ramat Migron, "have been persistent sources of settler violence", and that several were built on privately owned Palestinian land.[2]

Lebanon, Gaza and Syria

The Times of Israel reported in December 2024 that Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir had called for settlement in Gaza, while Benjamin Netanyahu had denied any intention to resettle it; no minister in that report had called for settlement in Lebanon.[4] Since then Smotrich has called for the Litani River to be Israel's border, and Ben-Gvir has spoken of a "settlement plan for Lebanon".[5][6]

In April 2026 Weiss told NBC News at the Gaza border: "Now I'm going to settle Gaza and Lebanon and Syria."[7] On 19 June 2026 she said that "all areas conquered by Israel, in Lebanon, Gaza and Syria, must be dotted immediately with thriving Jewish" settlements.[3] See Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon (2024–present).

Sanctions

On 20 May 2025 the UK sanctioned Weiss and froze Nachala's assets.[1] The EU listed Weiss on 28 May 2026, holding her responsible "in her capacity as Director" of Nachala.[2]
