L3 Technologies was previously known as L3 Communications, one of the world's largest arms and security equipment suppliers. It is an American company and reported sales of $10.5 billion in 2015.
L-3 is also a government contractor in aerospace systems, security and detection systems and pilot training.
Revolving door employer
In Britain, the company employs a number of high-ranking former military officers and a former Conservative government minister. They include:
- Admiral Peter Hudson, who has been L3's director of International Maritime Programmes since September 2016.[1]
- Ron Cook head of London operations, former Director Equipment Capability (ISTAR), Royal Air Force at the Ministry of Defence (Apr 2004 - Apr 2005) [2]
- Former Air Marshal Sir Christopher Harper joined L-3 as an 'adviser on international relations, contemporary risk-management in the security and defence domain, and capability gap analysis and mitigation with L-3 Communications'. According to the UK government's Advisory Committee on Business Appointments L-3 UK has stressed that they don't anticipate Sir Christopher being involved with any of their work involving the British Ministry of Defence.[3]
