Michal Kaminski MEP and the Conservative press office
In July 2009, James Macintyre of the New Statesman wrote with concern about Conservative MEPs apparently making "ties" with European neo-fascists, including Michal Kaminski of the National Revival of Poland party (NOP), following Kaminski's appointment as new chair of the Conservatives and Reformists group in the European Parliament.[3] Journalist George Pitcher of The Telegraph also reported the story,[4] which led - according to a later article by Macintyre - to Littlejohn e-mailing Pitcher from his Conservative party e-mail account, apparently to defend Kaminski. Macintyre writes:
- Tory sympathisers quickly went on the attack against me and in defence of Kaminski, including Daniel Hannan, who described me as a "Labour spin doctor", linking to inaccurate claims on a Tory gossip site which attacked me for reporting a split between Boris Johnson and David Cameron that is now widely accepted.
- Now, I have learned that on 3 August Will Littlejohn, the Conservative Party press officer responsible for "foreign affairs, shadow leader of the House, community cohesion", wrote an email from an official Conservative account to Pitcher. (Like Hannan, Littlejohn also linked to the Tory gossip site.)
- In the email, seen by the New Statesman, he made a number of points in defence of Kaminski.[5]
