The Vulkan family is a Glasgow-area Jewish family active in Zionist fundraising and communal bodies, notably JNF KKL Scotland (The KKL (Scotland) Charitable Trust). It is linked by marriage to the Minster family of Glasgow Maccabi.

Herbert and Elaine Vulkan

Herbert Ralph Vulkan married Elaine in 1972; the marriage was registered in Eastwood and Mearns. Her surname is indexed both as Dexter and as Dansky.[1]

Elaine Vulkan was secretary of JNF KKL Scotland in about 2021.[2] In May 2009 the Jewish Chronicle pictured her with Stanley Lovatt at the JNF KKL Scotland stand at the Yom Ha'atzmaut celebrations organised by the Glasgow Zionist Federation at Maccabi's May Terrace buildings, which were sponsored by UJIA and JNF KKL Scotland.[3] In July 2011 it pictured her with Charles Barnett, Stanley Lovatt, Delia Berkley, David Links and others at the JNF KKL Scotland Pro-am golf tournament at Bonnyton Golf Club, which raised £25,000 for "the current JNF KKL Scotland project in the Negev".[4]

Gillian Rebecca Vulkan

Gillian Rebecca Vulkan's birth was registered in Eastwood and Mearns in 1974.[5] In July 1987 the Jewish Chronicle listed a Gillian Vulkan among the bat chayil graduates of the Glasgow Lubavitch cheder, naming Rabbi Chaim Jacobs as director of the Glasgow Lubavitch Foundation.[6] She married Gerard Minster in 2000 (Eastwood and Mearns registration district),[7] and they divorced in 2012 (Court of Session).[8] In 2017 she married John David Collins at Ayr.[9]

Jeffrey Vulkan

Jeffrey Vulkan's birth was registered in Eastwood and Mearns in 1977,[10] consistent with the birth month of July 1977 given by Companies House.[11] He has been a director of The KKL (Scotland) Charitable Trust since 8 December 2024,[11] and the trust's 2025-26 report lists him as chairman.[12] He married Louise Avril Cremer in 2003,[13] and they divorced in 2008 (Paisley Sheriff Court).[14] A Jewish Chronicle "Simchah of the week" feature in December 2008 described Jeff Vulkan as "Glasgow born and bred"; he had studied engineering and worked as a buyer for a Japanese company which made parts for Honda. He married Orli Schechter at Thompson's Lane Synagogue, Cambridge, and they live in Newton Mearns.[15]

Minster connection

Gerard Minster, who married Gillian Rebecca Vulkan in 2000,[7] is a trustee of Glasgow Maccabi.[16] Other Minsters associated with Glasgow Maccabi are Philip Minster, whom the Jewish Chronicle named as chairman of Glasgow Maccabi in March 1991,[17] and who was secretary and director of Friends Of Maccabi Limited until 1998;[18] and Doreen Minster, who with Bernard Cohen took the 1997 lease of the Maccabi Building in Giffnock as trustees for the Glasgow Jewish Maccabi Association.[19] Philip Minster married Doreen Kane in Glasgow in 1967.[20]
