Glasgow property company director and Jewish communal official
Timothy Edward Lovat (born May 1978; birth registered at Park Circus, Glasgow, in 1978[1]) is a Glasgow property company director and Jewish communal official. He is chairman of the Jewish Council of Scotland (JCoS, formerly the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities) and one of its trustees, and is immediate past president of the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council.[3][4][5] Companies House lists 19 appointments for him, many of them property companies, with the correspondence address 1008 Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow, G41 2HG, for most of his current roles.[6]
He is the son of Orry Lovat and Cynthia Lovat (née Regan): the ScotlandsPeople birth index records his mother's maiden name as Regan,[2] and Orry Isaac Lovat married Cynthia Regan in Eastwood and Mearns in 1975. The same index records two other Lovat births with the mother's maiden name Regan, his brothers Oliver Leonard Lovat (1976, Glasgow, Park Circus) and Robin Jamie Lovat (1982, Eastwood and Mearns).[2][7] His father, Orry, and Mervyn Lovat are brothers, sons of Mr and Mrs D. Lovat (née Sadie Taylor) of 9 Woodbank Crescent, Clarkston, according to birth notices in the Jewish Echo in 1947 and 1950 and the corresponding ScotlandsPeople birth entries,[8][9][10] so Timothy Lovat and his brothers are first cousins of Mervyn's sons Henry Mark, Toby Michael and Adam Matthew.[11]
Communal roles
- Jewish Council of Scotland: the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council's community directory lists him as chairman, with director Carmen McPherson and administrator Stacey Devlin.[3] The Edinburgh Star of September 2025 also lists him as JCoS chair and carries a contribution from him on the council.[12] In October 2026 the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) register listed him among the council's eight trustees.[4]
- Glasgow Jewish Representative Council: the council's website listed him as president in February 2025, with Nicola Livingston as vice-president.[13] Its board page now lists him as immediate past president, with Professor Henry Lovat as president.[5]
- Netherlee and Clarkston Charitable Trust (SC042072): trustee. The trust, registered in 2011, gives its purpose as "The advancement of Orthodox Judaism and Jewish Education".[14]
- Cosgrove Care: director from 25 March 2019 to 28 January 2021.[6] The Rep Council's biography describes him as a trustee; he was not among the trustees on the OSCR register in October 2026.[5][15]
- Freemasonry: the Rep Council's biography describes him as Master of Lodge Montefiore - No. 753.[5] The lodge's list of past masters gives "Timothy E. Lovat" for 2011.[16]
The Rep Council's biography describes him as a property entrepreneur. It says he is a patron of Norwood in London and a member of its Chairman's Circle Board, a patron of Jewish Blind and Disabled, a trustee of the Netherlee & Clarkston Charitable Trust and a member of the capital appeals committee of the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. It says he was formerly chair of the Calderwood Lodge Parent Council, president of the Property Managers Association Scotland and vice-chair of the Manchester Metropolitan University Jewish Society, and that he is married to Claire, with two children.[5]
