Tim Garden is a former Air Marshal, MoD Planner, think tank analyst and Liberal Democrat defence spokesman. He died of cancer in 2007 aged 63. He was nominated by former Lib Dem leader Charles Kennedy for the house of Lords in 2004 making him Lord Baron of Hampstead. He was a former director of Chatham House during 1997-98.
Garden spent most of his career in the RAF and MOD before becoming commander of the Royal College of Defence Studies. He was interested in Middle East politics and was a member of the Anglo-Jordanian Society. In 2000, he advised the Palestinian Authority on negotiations with Israel, under the auspices of the Adam Smith Institute.
