Jewish communal office building at 222 Fenwick Road, Giffnock

The Jewish Community Centre (JCC) is a Jewish communal building at 222 Fenwick Road, Giffnock, Glasgow, G46 6UE, on the same site as Giffnock Newton Mearns Synagogue. It houses the offices of several Glasgow and Scottish Jewish organisations and has meeting rooms for hire.[1][2]

Management

In 2008 the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council said that it managed "the Jewish Community Centre on behalf of the entire Community", and that the centre was "managed by the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council". It named the centre conveners as Kalman Bookman and David Strang and the centre administrator as Mrs Beverley Taylor.[3] The Representative Council's website now says that "The JCC is managed by the Giffnock Newton Mearns Synagogue". It names Orli Schechter as centre administrator and gives the centre's telephone number as 0141 577 8200.[1]

The 222 Fenwick Road site is owned by Eastwood Jewish Community Centres (SC048957). The Registers of Scotland summary for title REN156620 describes the property as "Giffnock Synagogue, 222 Fenwick Road, Giffnock, Glasgow G46 6UE" and gives its last purchase date as 20 October 2022.[4] The accounts of Eastwood Jewish Community Centres give the same date for the transfer of title from Giffnock and Newlands Hebrew Congregation.[5]

Occupants

In 2008 the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council listed the centre's occupants as "the Representative Council, UJIA, the Jewish Learning Centre, the Israel Information Office, the Chaim Bermant Library, the UJIA Makor Resource Centre, the Student Chaplain, the Shaliach and the Youth Worker".[3] These were the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, UJIA Scotland, the Glasgow Jewish Learning Centre, the Israel Information Office in Scotland and the Chaim Bermant Library.

The Representative Council's current listing says that the centre "houses the offices of the GJRC, JNF KKL Scotland (Ltd), JCoS and the Queens Park Charitable Trust". These are the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, The KKL (Scotland) Charitable Trust, the Jewish Council of Scotland and the Queens Park Charitable Trust.[1] Giffnock Newton Mearns Synagogue says that its upper floor is "used by various organisations including the JCC, JIA, Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, SCoJeC, Queens Park Charitable Trust, JNF KKL Scotland and others".[2]
